Fix install and download problems

When you finish, PoppyDisk is installed, or you know exactly what to retry and when.

The download is unavailable

The download link answers No published release is available right now. instead of a file.

PoppyDisk's website looks up the latest release at the moment you download, and refuses to hand out anything if it cannot confirm the right file. It never serves a mismatched installer instead.

1. Wait a few minutes and try the link again: poppydisk.com/download/windows.
2. If it still fails after an hour, write to support@poppydisk.com.

Microsoft Store will not install PoppyDisk

Microsoft Store downloads and installs the Store Edition itself, so the message to act on is the Store's own.

1. Check that the PC runs Windows 11 on x64. The Store Edition is not offered for Windows 10 or for a Windows on ARM PC.
2. If the Store asks you to sign in, that account is the Store's. PoppyDisk has no account of its own and never asks for one.
3. Retry from PoppyDisk on Microsoft Store. If the Store reports a problem of its own, its Downloads page shows the reason and offers a retry.
4. If PoppyDisk installs but opens a message about the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime instead of its window, install or repair the runtime from the address in the message, then open PoppyDisk again.

I want the MSI instead of the setup program

The default download is the setup program, PoppyDisk_<version>_x64-setup.exe. The same release is also published as an MSI, PoppyDisk_<version>_x64_en-US.msi, at poppydisk.com/download/windows?format=msi. Both install the same app. See Install PoppyDisk.

The PC is not x64

PoppyDisk is built for 64-bit x64 Windows 11 only. There is no ARM64 build and no 32-bit build, so it cannot be installed on a Windows on ARM PC. See the requirements in Install PoppyDisk.

Windows is not Windows 11

PoppyDisk requires Windows 11. It is not tested or supported on earlier versions.

The installed version does not match this guide

This guide describes the current release for download. The version PoppyDisk shows beside its name in the title bar is the one you have.

1. In PoppyDisk, choose More options, then Check for updates. Follow Update PoppyDisk if it finds an Update.
2. If Check for updates is missing and you installed from Microsoft Store, Updates come from the Store: see Update PoppyDisk. If Check for updates is missing from a direct download, download the current release from poppydisk.com/download/windows and run it once. Your copy predates in-app updates.
3. Open PoppyDisk and compare the version in the title bar with the download's file name.

If a control the guide names is missing after that, write to support@poppydisk.com with the version from the title bar and the page you were following.

An Update fails

The Store Edition has no update dialog of its own. If Microsoft Store cannot update PoppyDisk, its Downloads page shows the reason; see Microsoft Store will not install PoppyDisk. The messages below belong to the Direct-download Edition.

Use the message PoppyDisk shows to choose the next step:

• Could not check for updates. Check your connection, then choose More options and Check for updates again. Automatic check failures stay silent.
• The update could not be downloaded. Choose Download from the website and run the current installer by hand.
• The update could not be verified. Do not use the downloaded installer. Choose Download from the website so the website can provide the current published installer.
• The update could not be installed. Choose Download from the website and run the current installer by hand.
• Finish or cancel the running Scan first. Choose Later, finish or cancel every running or queued Scan, reopen Update to X, then choose Restart now.
• Wait for the deletion to finish. Choose Later, wait for the deletion result, reopen Update to X, then choose Restart now.
