Install PoppyDisk

When you finish, PoppyDisk opens on the Drive Overview and its version shows in the title bar.

System requirements

Before you start

Windows 11.
A 64-bit x64 PC. There is no ARM64 build.
A Windows account you can install programs into. Microsoft Store and the direct download's setup program both install for the current user without asking for administrator permission. The optional MSI installs for the whole PC, so Windows asks for permission.
WebView2, which Windows 11 already includes. The Store Edition uses that copy; if it is missing, PoppyDisk shows a message with Microsoft's download address instead of its window. The direct-download installer carries its own copy and installs it silently if it is missing.

PoppyDisk is a native desktop app, not a browser page. It does not need an internet connection to scan, and nothing about your Drive leaves your PC. See What PoppyDisk sends and stores.

Choose an edition

PoppyDisk comes two ways. Both are the same free app, with the same Scan Tier, the same Clean Tier, and the same License Key.

Microsoft Store installs PoppyDisk and keeps it updated. This edition never asks for administrator rights, and it does not offer the Elevated Rescan yet, so Restricted areas stay part of Unknown Space. See Measure Restricted areas.
The direct download from poppydisk.com brings its own installer, finds and installs its own Updates, and offers the Elevated Rescan.

If PoppyDisk is already installed from the direct download, keep it. It updates itself, and nothing moves it to Microsoft Store on its own. Each edition keeps its own Scan results, Pinned Folders, Cleanup Basket, and License Key activation, so switching means starting fresh and unlocking again. Install from Microsoft Store

Open PoppyDisk on Microsoft Store and choose Install. On a Windows 11 PC, Microsoft Store opens and installs PoppyDisk. On any other device the page only shows the listing.
Start PoppyDisk from the Start menu, or with the Store's Open button. The window opens on the Drive Overview, listing your Drives with how much space is free on each. The title bar shows PoppyDisk and the installed version.

Nothing is scanned until you ask. Measuring what is on a Drive is the next task, Scan a Drive.

Install the direct download

Download the installer from poppydisk.com/download/windows. The file is named PoppyDisk_<version>_x64-setup.exe. If you prefer an MSI package, use poppydisk.com/download/windows?format=msi instead.
Open the downloaded file and follow the installer. It installs PoppyDisk for your Windows account and adds it to the Start menu.
Start PoppyDisk from the Start menu. The window opens on the Drive Overview, listing your Drives with how much space is free on each. The title bar shows PoppyDisk and the installed version.

Nothing is scanned until you ask. The overview only lists Drives and their free space; measuring what is on them is the next task, Scan a Drive.

If the download page reports that the download is unavailable, the website could not reach the current release. Wait and retry. See Fix install and download problems.

Before you point it at your own Drive

If you would rather see every screen first, take a tour in Demo Mode. Demo Mode runs PoppyDisk on synthetic Drives and never reads or changes a real file.

Update PoppyDisk

If you installed from Microsoft Store, the Store installs Updates for you, and PoppyDisk shows no update controls of its own. See Update PoppyDisk.

Current versions of the direct download can find, download, and install an Update from inside the app. See Update PoppyDisk.

If your copy predates in-app updates, download the current installer from the same address and run it once. The download always resolves to the latest published release.
